Workshop v2.1 is out!

This update is ALL*about quality-of-life improvements that aims to alleviate some of the early-day Workshop tediousness. Probably the biggest feature for this update is the fact that you don't have to wait 5 billion years it to patch your game.  A lot of code was rewritten from the ground-up for this update, so things might break. As usual, if you encounter a bug, please report it here!

Additions

  • Several new events have been added.
    • Dice Duel - Win a dice roll to proceed past this space. If you lose, you get sent back to start!
    • Change Star - Changes the star's position (if applicable). Acts similarly to a Chomp Call.
    • Random Pipe Warp - Warps you to a random space with the same Random Pipe Warp event.

Changes (these are major!)

  • Board spaces are no longer prefixed with "boardspace." or ".pspc"! Spaces are now identified solely by their numeric id. No more typing in an essay to link a space to an event anymore!
  • Increase the board size limit to 12 megabytes.
    • This will be further increased or removed in a future update.
  • You can now move the viewport using the right-mouse button!
  • You no longer need the nw.js SDK in order to quick-test boards.
  • The package.nw patching process has changed.
    • Rather than importing a package.nw file directly into the program, you link the program to your Party Project installation directory. This will allow you to quick-test with that version directly, as well as patch builds without having to specify the output .nw each time.
      • This change also allows for the board patching process to be much, much faster.
  • The behaviour of Shadow Stars has changed slightly. They no longer trigger a star change upon obtaining one. This should hopefully fix all Shadow Star-related issues once and for all!
  • A lot of the internal code for Workshop was rewritten. If you're curious, most of the changes went into the board patching process, board loading/saving process, and pop-up windows.
    • Because of this, the closing prompt for the program no longer closes other prompts if they're open.
    • If you encounter any bugs with these, please notify me and send a bug report!
    • Gamemaker Version was bumped to 2024.14.
      • This comes with a fix for a bug that caused lag whenever the program was windowed on some computers.

Removals

  • Dropped support for the following Party Project versions:
    • v99-250504
    • v99.01-250504
    • v99.02-250515
    • v99.03-250516

there's probably some stuff i forgot to list lol

Community Showcase

It's time for one of these again! Let's take a look back on some personal favourites of mine made by the community. Here are just a few:

Welccome to Partyville (by AnonAnimator)

An Animal Crossing-themed board! Help out the denizens of this town to get rewarded on this cozy cove town! The art of this board is definitely a highlight, and makes pretty good use of the new day-night mechanic introduced in Workshop v2.0.

Bowser's Reverse Route (by Puffy)

This board is very unique in playstyle: rather than aiming for high rolls and chasing stars, you want to avoid shadow stars by lowing roll! Can you survive your turns in this fiery domain?

Remember to use the custom ruleset when playing on this board for the optimal experience!

Korembi's Dream Station (by Tenshi)

Experience a dazzling spectacle in five distinct worlds! While daunting at first, you can master the unique gameplay of each five islands and reign supreme in the world of dreams! Also, birds!

I also wanted to feature 2-3 more boards but im tired rn check back tomorrow for those who are curious 🦑
